New Hampshire proposed bill to decriminalize prostitution

First-Ever Bill to Repeal Prohibition On Prostitution – Hearing and Press Conference

The big news is that three New Hampshire legislators have proposed legislation (NH House Bill 1614) to decriminalize prostitution. Our board member, Bella Robinson, provided invaluable help with their press conference and testimony at the very first hearing!

“We put forward this bill in response to Amnesty International’s August 15 recommendation that governments across the world decriminalize prostitution.”

“All over North America, sex workers have less STDs than the general public.”

“…decriminalization is really on the agenda in the US and international. There’s growing support for it.”

“… criminalization … increases rape and violence and forces prostitution underground.”

“…decoy operations, stings, street sweeps, none of which are effective in reducing prostitution or have any effect on the violence against sex workers.”

“We think this bill… …it will help change the climate of violence and abuse under which sex workers suffer.”

“(if the bill passes)New Hampshire would be the first state to intentionally decriminalize prostitution.”

The organizations pushing for decriminalization of prostitution around the world are:
Amnesty International
World Health Organization
The International Labor Organization
The Global Alliance Against trafficking and Women
The Global network of Sex-work Projects
The Global commistion on HIV and the Law
Human Rights Watch
The Open Society Foundation
Antislavery International

“We expect passage in this bill to result in reduced violence against women, reduced spread of sexually transmitted infections and an increase in a cooperative relationship between sex workers and police including access to the justice system for people who haven’t had access to our institutions for a long time.”
